Artist statement:

Dormant and lifeless, the face is marred by long pores, engravings, which represent the scars of our consumption-driven society. The golden color reminds us of the waste generated by our relentless pursuit of material wealth and mindless environmental degradation. This waste creates a metallic coating of indifference on the face, which seems to have frozen in powerlessness. However, the face is also adorned with corals and other aquatic organisms, emphasizing the potential for beauty and regeneration even amidst destruction. Although metal slowly seems to attack these forms, they symbolise the ability to adapt, and their green and blue shades – vitality and growth. This combination makes us reflect on the dual nature of our relationship with the environment – one of destruction, but also of potential for renewal and symbiosis. The sculpture urges us to contemplate our role in shaping a more sustainable and harmonious future. All is not lost yet.
